What is Aikido?
Aikido is a modern martial art that, while being non-aggressive, has practical benefits in daily life. It is both a form of self-defense and a discipline of mind/body awareness and coordination.
Aikido is built around responding to attack, and trains people to receive the attacker with compassion and using their own power to defeat their aggression. It is not about “winning”, but using our energy to diffuse an attack while minimising the chance of injury.
As Aikido uses smooth, flowing techniques, it can be practised by anyone regardless of age, size or strength. While the techniques do have real-world application, they are taught in a controlled environment to ensure an enjoyable and safe learning experience.
The techniques can be learned at your own pace, making Aikido an effective form of exercise and relaxation.
The goal of Aikido is to learn to move and live in a state of power, gentleness, freedom and harmony.
